Publishing costs with Shoppe Foreman Publishing

The cost of publication is made up of two factors:

1. A set-up fee of $99 for each family history, memoir, or biography title.

2. A "per book" fee that depends on the number of pages in the book and whether the pages are color or black-and-white (see description below). You pay the "per book fee" only for books that you purchase for your own sale. There is no fee for books sold through a reseller, such as Amazon. For sales through these outlets, the author receives a royalty.

The "per book fee" for printing each physical book.

1)  For a black-and-white book of 24-108 pages, the fee is $3.30 per book.

2)  For a color book of 24-40 pages, the fee is $4.80 per book.

3) For a black-and-white book of 110-828 pages, the fee is $2.00 per book plus $0.012/page.

4) For a color book of 42-250 pages, the fee is $2.00 per book plus $0.07/page.

The dimensions of the book are not a factor. If you contact Larry, he has a model that will give you an estimated cost per book.

Following are a few selected examples that will give you a more specific idea. You can use the examples below to test your understanding of the figures described above.

Black-and-white printed pages

1. Any number of pages between 24 and 108:  $3.30 per book
2. Black-and-white 120 pages:  $3.44 per book
3. Black-and-white 160 pages:  $3.92 per book
4. Black-and-white 200 pages:  $4.40 per book 
5. Black-and-white 300 pages:  $5.60 per book

Color printed pages

1. Any number of pages between 24 and 40:  $4.80 per book
2. Color 60 pages:  $6.20 per book
3. Color 100 pages:  $9.00 per book
